Project Descriptions and Grades: 20 points possible

Crowdfunding Group Project: 15 points

Each group will prepare a presentation of a real or invented product or company. The goal of this presentation is to convince your investors (the other students) to give you money.
Presentations should last approximately 7-12 minutes.
Presentations will include a short promotional video (30 seconds – 2 minutes) and a short speech in front of the class (2-5 minutes). A short Q&A will follow the presentations (3-5 minutes).
Every member of the group must speak at some point during the presentation.
Students must send all videos, PowerPoints, and other extra materials to AnnaBelle at least 24 hours before the presentation.

    • group uses correct grammar on all written materials

    • students use professional body language and make eye contact
    • students do not read directly from their notes

Class Rules:

Absences:

If students are absent on the date of the individual or group presentation, they will automatically be marked as défaillant.

Class Projects and Grades:

Participation – 5 points (25%)

  • Students must speak only English in class. If I hear you speak another language in class, I will not give you any points for participation.
  • Students must follow all the class rules.
  • Students must pay attention and actively participate in all activities.

Individual Exposé – 5 points (25%)
Dates: Group A 18/11; Group B 19/11; Group C 20/11

  • Students will choose a picture that is interesting or meaningful to them. They will bring this picture to class and give a short presentation about it.
  • Students will answer the questions:
    • What does the picture show?
    • Why did I choose this picture?
    • Why is this picture interesting or meaningful to me?
  • Each exposé should last 1-3 minutes. Students cannot use notes during these exposés.

Individual Exposé Rubric: 5 points

  • Student is clear, confident and comprehensible.
  • Student does not use notes.
  • Student uses their own words (NO PLAGIARISM).
  • Student understands what they are saying.
  • Student is prepared to present on the correct date.
  • The exposé lasts 1-3 minutes.

Group Presentation – 10 points (50%)
Dates: Group A 25/11; Group B 26/11; Group C 27/11

  • Goal: To explore a niche interest in English and to share information with your classmates.
  • Each group will create a website that is an online catalog of resources about the subject they have chosen. (Free websites: WordPress, Wix, Weebly, Strikingly, etc.)
  • Each individual member of the group is responsible for finding at least three sources about the subject. They will share these sources on the website, as well as an explanation and a review of the source. Sources can include: film, series, YouTube video or channel, Ted Talk, artist’s website, book, board game, video game, Buzzfeed quiz, personal interview, recipe, etc.
  • Each group must have at least 3 different types of sources.
  • The group will present their sources to the class on the date listed above. The presentation will last approximately 10 minutes.

Group Website and Presentation Rubric: 10 points

  • The website is complete and functional.
  • Grammar and spelling on the website is correct.
  • The sources are relevant and interesting, and each source has an explanation.
  • The website is creative and interesting – the better the website, the higher your grade!

Absences:

Students have the right to 2 absences. If they are absent 3 times, they are défaillant.e. Students cannot justify their absences; these 2 absences include medical and family emergencies. Students who are absent on the dates of the individual exposé and group presentation must give any justifications to scolarité; if scolarité accepts these justifications, they will contact AnnaBelle, who will reschedule these projects only for the student who was absent.

Group Debate – 27/03

  • The entire class will participate in a debate in class on 27 March.
  • Timeline:
    • 07/02 – choose debate topic; choose sides
    • 08/02-19/03: do research outside of class
    • 20/03: prepare arguments in class
    • 27/03: debate in class
  • Students will do research and brainstorm ideas outside of class. On 20 March, students will write arguments and prepare with the rest of the class.

Group Debate Rubric: 10 points possible

  • Students are clear, confident, and comprehensible.
  • Students are well-prepared.
  • Students support their arguments with logic and facts.
  • Each student speaks; however, students do not dominate the debate, and they allow others to speak.
  • Students are respectful, calm, and professional during the debate.
  • Students use their own words (NO PLAGIARISM).
  • Students do not read directly from their notes.

Participation: 5 points possible
